Woven Together: Trusting God in Life's Changing Seasons

Lately at Creative Hands, we have been focusing on trying new patterns—designs we have never attempted before. I have been so encouraged throughout this process. I had nothing to do with how the women set up the looms; instead, I simply presented the designs and have been amazed by what they have been able to accomplish. Not only have we experimented with new designs, but we have also tried new color combinations. While some of these have come out looking great, others forced us to stop and choose alternative colors. It has truly been a season of learning for all of us.

As I have been thinking about these new patterns and different color combinations, I have realized there is a profound connection to our final products. When we sit at the loom, we work with the warp threads—the long threads stretched tightly on the loom before weaving begins. These form the foundational structure of every fabric. Then, there are the other threads, which are called the weft. When chosen well, these weft threads beautifully bring out the design as it is woven.

When I think of weaving and the interlacing of warp and weft threads, I am reminded of our lives at Creative Hands and the community where we are planted. I cannot help but be grateful that even amid life's changing seasons and transitions, we have core values that keep us together. We share an individual yet corporate identity, held together by the grace of God in His loving arms.

This year, we have had many people pass through our doors to hear the story of Creative Hands. Some have purchased products, while others have supported us in different ways. What I love most is that these new experiences—learning new patterns and color combinations—do not stand alone. Instead, they are being interlaced with what already exists: our past experiences, the moments we first learned how to weave, and the journey that has brought us into this current season. I am reminded that while the patterns and colors may change, the threads themselves (the warp and the weft) come from earlier stages—seasons where we learned about textures, fibers, and their differences.

Just as we do not always see a weaving pattern immediately, the same is true for new seasons in life. We may not fully understand their meaning at first, but over time, clarity comes. When we weave new motifs or designs, we are building upon existing fibers and techniques, and life operates the same way; our earlier experiences continue to shape our later identity.

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven…” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Thinking about these new seasons, patterns, and threads, I am also reminded of how many times we have made mistakes in setting up the loom or weaving a pattern. This is especially true when you don't realize you've made an error and keep weaving for a while. You look at the reference picture, look at your work, and realize they just don't match. Then, you check again, find the mistake, and try again. Sometimes, however, we leave the mistake—especially if it isn't going to distort the final outcome—because mistakes can ultimately become part of a beautiful textile.

It is the same in the changing seasons of our lives. Life is not a straight line. We frequently encounter unexpected detours, failures, and interruptions, which often become the defining features of a meaningful life narrative.

As we grow and explore more new designs amid our changing seasons, our prayer for you and your family is that you will know and experience God’s presence and peace, no matter what season you find yourself in. In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, the Bible reminds us that everything has its time. Verse one reads, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven…” I truly believe that embracing each season as it comes allows us to enjoy life, learn, grow, and ultimately help others grow. May you truly experience the peace, joy, love, goodness, and faithfulness of God in the season you are in today.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer, giving generously, and purchasing our products. We are excited to invite you to follow us on social media, sign up for our newsletter, and drop us an email to let us know how we can be praying with and for you.

We love doing life with you.
