Weaving Grace: Our Journey into Tapestry

When we started Creative Hands, we didn’t have a detailed roadmap—just a deep desire to help women who had experienced hardship and displacement. We knew we wanted to be part of their healing and growth, whether through language learning, sewing, weaving, or exploring the rich cultural heritage of Greece. But we had no idea how those dreams would unfold.
Since 2021, our focus has been primarily on teaching weaving—not because we’re professionally trained textile designers, but because we believe in hands-on learning, community, and persistence. Our founder, like everyone on the team, learned weaving not in a classroom, but at the loom—with books, guidance, and a lot of trial and error.
Looking back, we clearly see God’s grace in every step. The women we’ve walked with, the skills they’ve gained, and the impact we’ve seen have only been possible through God’s guidance. He has been our Shepherd through it all.
Connecting to Culture Through Tapestry
At Creative Hands, we’ve always wanted the women we work with to do more than live in the community—we want them to truly belong. One way we’ve pursued this is by connecting them with traditional Greek weaving techniques, opening doors for deeper cultural integration and, we hope, broader market opportunities in the future.
This summer, in June and July, we spent two wonderful weeks teaching the art of tapestry weaving. It was a milestone moment for us.
Two years ago, we were able to sponsor Afrodite to train for two months with a skilled tapestry teacher. Watching her now pour that knowledge into teaching others was a beautiful full-circle moment. Every day, she gave her heart to the women and the craft—and the woven pieces they created are truly stunning. Each woman at Creative Hands now has a basic understanding of tapestry weaving, and we are thrilled by their progress.
What’s Next: A Step Toward Mastery
Now, we have a special opportunity to deepen our skills. Five members of the Creative Hands team have been invited to participate in a five-day workshop in a town known for preserving and teaching traditional tapestry weaving methods.
We’ve reserved our spots in faith, trusting that support will come. The cost per participant is €650 for the training, plus additional expenses for food and lodging. In total, we’re aiming to raise €5,000 by the first week of September.
This training will allow us to expand into creating tapestry wall hangings, rugs, and more, opening up new creative and economic opportunities for the women we serve.
How You Can Help
Would you consider supporting us? We ask first and foremost for your prayers as we step into this next chapter. If you’re able to give, your donation will directly equip women with advanced skills and help preserve a meaningful craft tradition.
We are so grateful for your continued encouragement, belief, and generosity. Together, we are not just weaving threads—we are weaving hope.
